Course Description

Ready to move beyond general fishing and learn how to target pike properly? This practical 4-hour course is designed for anglers who already have some fishing experience and want to develop the specialist skills needed to fish for pike confidently, safely and responsibly. It’s ideal if you’ve completed Learn to Fish: Rods & Reels and either Feeder Fishing or Carp Fishing, or if you’re already a confident angler but haven’t yet learned the correct approach to pike fishing. Pike fishing can feel like a big step. The tackle is different, the fish are powerful and safe handling really matters. That’s exactly why this course exists. In the online section you will learn how to use both float and ledger rigs, how to set up your tackle correctly and how to adapt your approach to different situations. We’ll look at pike behaviour, where they are likely to be found and how to make better decisions about where and how to fish. During the practical lesson your instructor will help you turn that knowledge into skill. Confidence Around the Fish One of the biggest barriers for anglers starting pike fishing is knowing what to do once a fish is on the bank. Pike have sharp teeth and must be handled correctly, both for your own safety and for the welfare of the fish. We’ll show you how to position, handle, unhook and return them safely and confidently, using the right equipment and techniques. The aim is not simply to help you catch a pike. It’s to help you leave knowing how to fish for them properly and feeling confident enough to do it again independently. What to Expect Our courses are practical and focused on learning by doing. Your instructor will demonstrate each skill, then help you put it into practice beside the water. All tackle, bait, venue entry and fishing permits are included, so you don’t need to buy specialist pike equipment before you try it. If you already own tackle, you’re welcome to bring it along and we can help you understand how suitable it is. Group sizes are limited to 4 anglers, giving everyone plenty of individual support. Courses run for 4 hours and are suitable from age 10. Under-16s must be accompanied by an adult. Anglers aged 13+ will need the appropriate Environment Agency fishing licence.
