Learn the essential skills and knowledge you need to start pike fishing with greater confidence, safety and respect for the fish. Pike fishing can seem complicated at first. Strong tackle, different rigs, bite indication, lures and baits all have their place, and good fish handling is especially important. This online course brings those elements together in a clear, practical sequence so you understand not just what to use, but why and when to use it. You’ll learn about pike and their behaviour, suitable rods, reels, line and traces, commonly used rigs and tactics, lure fishing, livebaiting and deadbaiting, and how to recognise a bite and respond quickly. A major part of the course is dedicated to pike welfare and safe handling. We look at preparing your landing and unhooking equipment, landing a pike safely, controlling the fish on the mat, opening the mouth correctly, removing hooks and dealing with more difficult unhooking situations. The aim is not simply to help you catch a pike. It is to help you become an angler who is properly prepared to look after one when you do. The course finishes with a Knowledge Review covering the important points from the lessons. Complete it successfully and you’ll earn your Pike Angler Certificate. Some skills, particularly handling and unhooking, are best learned practically.
