Discover the Wellbeing Benefits of Angling

Unlocking Wellbeing Through Angling

At the UK Fishing School, we're not just about casting lines and reeling in fish. We're dedicated to enhancing mental well-being through the magic of angling, and we've got a variety of resources tailor-made for you across East Anglia.

Our team includes specialised angling instructors, armed with extensive MHFA training and ongoing CPD in this crucial domain. This unique blend of expertise has led us to create fishing-based resources that not only cater to the service user but also meticulously document and report quantifiable outcomes back to the prescribing authority.

What makes angling a "feel-good" experience? We've unravelled this mystery and seamlessly woven it into the services we offer. Complementing our efforts are the robust policies and codes of conduct that we meticulously adhere to, earning us the prestigious status of being an approved "Get Fishing for Wellbeing Partner" with the Angling Trust.

Fishing, we believe, is the key to unlocking a world of improved mental health and well-being. It's a doorway to relaxation, a means of connecting with nature, and a meaningful activity that triggers the release of positive hormones, elevates your mood, and imparts a profound sense of accomplishment.

Whether you're a seasoned angler or a complete novice, we've got you covered. Our skills training is delivered in bite-sized, manageable segments, creating an environment that celebrates achievement and rewards, fostering heightened confidence, self-esteem, and igniting a desire to progress.

We know that fishing makes a real difference to your well-being, but we're also dedicated to quantifying and documenting the outcomes. Typically, we employ the WEMWBS system to record the positive impacts of fishing. However, we're open to discussing alternatives and adapting them to our services if you have a different method in mind.

Assessment: Personalised Angling Journey

At our program, we celebrate diversity because we understand that each person brings their own set of experiences, skills, abilities, and, most importantly, unique goals. Our course director works closely with Key/Support workers to get a deep insight into the individual's one-of-a-kind needs.

Imagine a fishing assessment session with us that lasts around 4 hours – during this time, we're not just catching fish; we're creating memorable experiences, building trust, and forming a strong bond with the individual. Through engaging conversations and active listening, we don't just hear – we really listen. This allows us to understand the person's specific requirements and write a person centred angling plan. Our goal is to provide sessions and activities that not only meet but exceed those needs, making their time with us truly special.
