Course Description

Discover the specialist skills needed to fish confidently and responsibly for pike on this practical 4-hour course. This course is ideal for anglers who have completed Learn to Fish: Rods & Reels and either Learn to Fish: Feeder Fishing or Learn to Fish: Carp Fishing, or for confident anglers who already have some fishing experience and want to start pike fishing properly. You’ll learn how to use both float and ledger rigs, how to set up your tackle correctly, and how to adapt your approach to different fishing situations. We’ll explore pike behaviour and help you understand where these predators are likely to be found, so you can make more informed decisions about where and how to fish. You’ll also learn how to make your own pike traces, with the traces you create during the session yours to take home and use on future trips. A major part of the course focuses on fish welfare. You’ll practise the correct techniques for handling, unhooking and safely returning pike, building the confidence needed to deal with these powerful fish responsibly. Venue entry, tackle hire and bait are included, allowing you to concentrate on developing your skills with guidance from an experienced instructor. Just dress for the weather, bring a drink, and we’ll take care of the rest. What to Expect Our courses are practical, friendly and focused on learning by doing. Your instructor will help you set up, demonstrate the key skills and coach you as you put them into practice beside the water. All tackle, bait, venue entry and fishing permits are included, and group lessons are limited to 4 anglers so everyone receives individual support. Courses run for 4 hours. Please arrive a little before the advertised start time. Wear suitable outdoor clothing and footwear for the weather. You’re also welcome to bring your own fishing equipment if you have it. Group sessions are suitable from age 10, with under-16s accompanied by an adult. Anglers aged 13+ will need the appropriate Environment Agency fishing licence.
